Go Animate: The Experience

This goAnimate website will be very helpful in the future when i become a teacher. I will be able to make fun learning videos to help my future students learn the subjects in a fun and exciting way. Such subjects including math, science, history, reading and writing, and history. They will love to help and create a video as well. I know for a fact I will love using this go Animate tool in my classroom. I am very glad that I have learned about this website as well as learning how to use this tool.

HomeWork - Prezi: ISTE NETS-T 2a

Prezi can be used effectively as a digital tool that promote student learning and creatively by engaging the student in the learning experience.  Prezi is similar to other tools like Microsoft’s PowerPoint software, but is much easier to use, in my opinion.  Prezi’s aesthetic appeal should be able to keep students attention better than traditional presentation tools.  With Prezi’s  transitions, rather than just switching from slide to slide, it pans and zooms around the screen to key points in a set order to give a rather seamless and pretty viewing experience that keeps students engaged and attentive.  Additionally, with Prezi, students can make their own presentations and share them with other students, with their teachers, and others instantaneously with little effort.  Another great thing about Prezi is its cost.  Prezi is free for its basic features, which is a key detail for many cost-minded parents who do not have hundreds of dollars to spend on products like Microsoft Office.

Google Apps for Education and the ISTE NETS-T

In my future classroom, Google Aps for Education will be great learning tools that will address the ISTE NETS-T Standards in a beneficial way to the students.  The first ISTE Standard, Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity, can be targeted with Google Sites.  Google Sites can be used to allow students to create their own simple web site without having to write a single line of code.  According to Google, it is as simple as writing a document and it comes pre-loaded with a number of templates.  This can promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness because students will have to use their own creativity and imaginations in order to build a site.  This app can help aid in the development of 21st century skills because developing web pages can be a very beneficial skill set for those applying for jobs after school.  Any type of computer skills are a benefit in current times when computers run almost everything imaginable.  This app would be beneficial in a class like Literature.  A student could make a web site that s/he keeps a log of all the stories and books s/he has read and keep written analyses of the stories on this site.  This will benefit the student in ares such as reading comprehension and written English skills.

The second ISTE standard, Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments, can be addressed with Google Slides.  Similar to other presentation tools like Prezi and Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides allows you to create slideshows with embedded videos, animations, and transitions.  This app will help students design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity by using their individual creativity and imagination to create their own personal slide show to showcase what they have learned on a particular topic.  This will benefit the student in the 21st century because slideshows and presentations are becoming a large part of the educational and business world.  Many students in College and employees in the business world will regularly make slideshows and presentations for classes as well as for the organization by which they are employed.  Google slides could be utilized in practically any subject in school with benefits to the student.  Students can, as previously mentioned, make a presentation to showcase their knowledge, test their creativity, and help other students learn from each other.

Model digital age work and learning is the third ISTE standard.  This standard can be approached with an app like Google Docs.  Google Docs can help students Demonstrate fluency in technology systems
and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations.  Now instead of just writing an essay, printing it, and submitting it in person, the student can submit it on Google Docs and share it with their teachers, parents, and other students.  This will benefit students in the 21st century because this will aid in collaborative skills.  A student working on a group project, such as a science fair project, can start on the project alone, upload what he has done to Google Docs, where his partner can download it and continue working on it.  She can then upload what she has done, and the two students can do a project as a team without ever having to meet face to face.  This will aid students working on projects who may not always have schedules that work closely with one another.  One student may have dance practice when the other is free, for example, but with this tool, there can be collaboration without direct interface.

Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility is the fourth ISTE standard.  A good app to promote this is Google Books.  Google Books can help advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources.  This will aid in the development of 21st century skills by teaching reading, written English skills, and comprehension.  These are all necessities in our ever advancing society.  Without being able to read and write, it would be nearly impossible for one to become employed, as you could not even build a resume or fill out a job application.  This app would greatly benefit students in English, literature, and reading classes, as well as help them in other classes where they must read and write.

The last ISTE standard is engage in professional growth and leadership.  Teachers can contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self- renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and community with an app like Google Moderator.  Google Moderator would help students in just about any class, as a series can be opened on any topic.  The teacher could post homework assignments here, and students who are having trouble can ask questions while others can post helpful suggestions.  This could benefit in the 21st century later on iin situations like in a job where employers would like feedback from their employees on how they could improve the business or make changes, as well as any other comments or suggestions.

Educational Gaming: Math Practice Flashcards

The game I chose is called Math practice flash cards. It is just an app that helps you learn basic math skills adding, subtracting, multiplication, and division. In the game you can choose the level of difficulty and it will keep track of your best score. I have this game on my phone now, for my daughter. It is great! It will also help when I become a teacher because it is a fun and simple way to learn simple math skills. I will be addressing the ISTE-NETS because this app is online so they students can use a desktop, laptop, and tablet to access the game. This game coincides with the ISTE-NETS standard number one; Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity. Many projects could also help teach math skills but the following link, I believe, also fits with the ISTE-NETS standard number one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCboYUoCZYY&list=PL81BC3780C6D5D1CA

Story Bird: The Crazy Tree

http://storybird.com/chapters/the-crazy-tree/

~The Crazy Tree~

I was walking through the woods one day, bored out of my mind. With no friends to come over, I had to find something to do, so I decided to find a tree to climb.

I found a tree in the distance. It was huge, and had long weird branches.

I walked what felt like forever, when I finally reached the tree I started to climb. I climbed all the way to the top; the tree must have been like 100 feet tall.

Then, all of a sudden, the tree began to move. The branches were waving around like crazy arms. It seemed to be trying to knock me off, but that’s crazy I thought because trees can’t think.

The trunk of the tree started moving like rocking back and forth, while the branches were freaking out. It was whomping. I was so scared, I was screaming like a crazy person, holding on for dear life.

I started to slip, I was falling, I fell from the tippity top of the 100 foot tall whomping, angry tree.

On my long way down I landed on a swinging branch and held on to that, once again for dear life.

The tree whipped the branch I so desperately clanged to back and forth, up and down. Tirelessly the tree was trying to make me fall off to my death.

Then it just stopped, as quickly as it began it was over, or so it seemed. I relaxed, lying almost lifeless on the branch that had saved my life.

But then BAM!!!!

The tree gave one good shake and I was on the ground.

The wind was knocked out of me and I couldn’t breathe. The tree started to move back and forth. At first I just laid there watching in total amazement of what just happened.  This tree just tried to kill me.

My friends were never going to believe me! They would think I wa….. OH NO!!!!

The tree was taunting me? It was teasing me with the back and forth, I think, because it was coming down faster than my dad with a fly swatter. It was going to land right where I was laying.

I didn’t have time to get up and run, so I rolled as fast as I could. I got away just in time the tree was inches from my face as it crashed so hard on the ground it popped me off the ground for a split second.

I got up and ran, I ran so fast and so long. I didn’t stop until I was home. I got home went straight to my room climbed in bed and vowed to never again climb another tree as long as I live.

Reflection question (in 100 - 150 words): Which picture gives you more confidence in the presidents leadership abilities? Why?
Honestly, I do not think either of these pictures show that he has the ability to be a good leader. However, he does make a very good model. I believe the first photo was staged and someone attempted to make the President look like he cared. In the picture it appears as though he was laughing, given the state of things one would think that the president of our country would be trying to find a way to help with the crisis, not posing for pictures. In the second picture Obama looks bored and not interested. If I had to guess what was going on behind the scenes I would guess someone was telling him how “he” was going to address the problem. While, I don’t have a political view on many things, I think that these two pictures make him look a little disgraceful.

Seven Power Lens RA #2

Quote:
“In strict confidence…I should welcome almost any war, for I think this country needs one” - Theodore Roosevelt Response: I chose this quote by Theodore Roosevelt, because it was the only quote that really stayed with me through the entire text. “In strict confidence…I should welcome almost any war, for I think this country needs one” This to me seems absurd, why encourage war? I knew Roosevelt had fought in a previous war, but I did not realize he encouraged it. Honestly, I thought that since he had fought before and saw his friends and fellow soldiers die, he would try to avoid it at any cost. A leader of a country, I think, should try to protect their people, not send them out for slaughter. This quote was the best choice for me because it has opened up my eyes to a person I thought was admirable.

It is important for readers to know how to tell if the news is being bias to his topic. But how? This article will help students or anyone who needs help, to understand how to tell if the news is indeed bias or legit. According to the text, students need to be able to tell the difference between biased information and not biased. Students need to understand that some stuff they see on the internet are just ads.

Think Aloud meets ISTE-Nets

Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. a. Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness b. Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources c. Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes d. Model collaborativents. knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environme

The ThinkAloud project will help me integrate technology in the classroom in many ways. I will be able to make extremely detailed presentations, because of the tools I learned how to use in this project. I will also be able to teach my students how to use the tools I used to teach them. I will be able to encourage creativity and also help the students be creative with technology. When I’m researching something new to teach I will be able to tell the validity of the website I am using. I will also be able to tell if the author is bias, gains something from what he has published, and also to research any claims or data presented.
